Cross Country on to States!
Last Saturday, the Greenhills Cross Country team competed in Algonac for the MHSAA Regional Championship in a meet full of drama and personal records. On the girls side, the Gryphons were once again led by Addi G ‘28. Addi set a personal record of 19:35.2, good for a fourth place overall finish. Junior Janaan R ‘26 also earned a top-20 finish for Greenhills with a time of 21:09.1. Both Addi and Janaan qualified for the State Championship meet this Saturday at Michigan International Speedway. As a team, the Gryphons scored 177 good for a tie for third with Almont. Unfortunately, Almont earned the tie-breaker to be the third and final team to qualify for states. With no seniors on the roster, Greenhills will return all seven varsity runners next season with high expectations.
On the boys side, four personal records and a season-best from senior captain Mason S ‘25 propelled the Gryphons to a third place finish and a team-qualification for the State meet. Greenhills was led by Henry B ‘26 who ran the 5k in 17:02.6, good for a PR and 8th overall. Joining Henry and Mason in the top-25 were Nico A ‘26, who finished 11th overall, and Naveen K ‘27 who finished 21st overall.
The Gryphons are in their final prep for this Saturday’s MHSAA State Championship race at Michigan International Speedway. You can read more about their path to MIS here.
Volleyball Completes a Successful Regular Season and Turns Eyes Towards Districts
Two weeks ago, Greenhills volleyball quietly had one of the most exciting wins of the season. In a marathon, 5-set affair with Cranbrook-Kingswood, the Gryphons showed grit and perseverance. The night started around 7pm with a celebration of the team’s 9 seniors. Almost three hours later, the Gryphons would find themselves down 14-12, needing to score the next two points to extend the match. Audrey F ‘25 came through with some senior-night magic for the Gryphons. After Greenhills was able to notch the score 14-14, Audrey delivered a perfectly placed ace to give the Gryphons match-point. Junior Priya P earned the kill on the next ponit, securing the well-earned victory for Greenhills. Watch the final set here.
Greenhills finished the regular season with a record of 18-8. They begin MHSAA district play on Monday with a difficult road challenge against host Whiteford. Read more about the volleyball season here.
Swim and Dive Gearing Up for the Postseason
With a record of 6-6, Greenhills swimmers are getting ready for CHSL Championships. On Monday, Greenhills divers will compete at Bloomfield Hills High School. The following week brings CHSL Swim finals and the MHSAA Regional Diving Championship.
Soccer’s “Cinderella” Run Ends in Elite-8 Shootout
Greenhills entered postseason play sitting 61st in the MHSAA’s Michigan Power Ratings and with only two wins on the season. However, win totals and rankings proved to be inadequate descriptors of the quality of soccer the team played throughout the season. As is typical, Greenhills played one of the most difficult schedules in division 3 which prepared them well for yet another deep postseason run. That run ended last Thursday in the state quarterfinals, leaving Greenhills inches from a Final Four berth. After conceding an early penalty kick, Greenhills quickly bounced back via a header from junior Shiv P ‘26. Then, Greenhills and host Williamston played 80 more minutes of scoreless soccer. After playing 200 minutes of soccer three days, the Gryphons ran out of gas in the ensuing shootout, but not before taking home the school’s 11th straight and 24th overall MHSAA District Championship.
Flag Football Makes its Middle School Debut at Greenhills
On an unseasonably warm fall day, over 40 middle school students participated in the first day of the inaugural flag football season at Greenhills. This middle school intramural program gives students the opportunity to enjoy the sport in a low-stakes environment meant to expose students to the value of team play and, of course, having fun. Upper school students volunteer as coaches for the teams which exposes them to valuable leadership opportunities. In this inaugural year, flag football will run approximately 5 weeks, weather permitting.
