Spirit Week might start this upcoming Monday, but athletics is heating up already with all three varsity teams scheduled against big rivals.
Boys Swimming
Wednesday night, for the first time in program history, Greenhills boys swimming defeated Cranbrook-Kingswood 94-82. The victory was a huge step forward for the program and also in the CHSL conference race. The team added to their growing list of MISCA (Michigan Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association) Meet cuts and MHSAA State Championship cuts. Also, two more school records fell: Chris Gregg ‘27 set a new bar for the 200 free-style with a time of 1:47.38 and Gregg and Jeremiah Green ’27 contributed to a new school record of 1:41.42 in the 200 medley relay. The swim team looks to keep the big results up next week, on the road, against Allen Park Cabrini.
Girls Basketball
Girls basketball was supposed to kick off the action at home on Tuesday evening against CHSL foe University Liggett. However, record low temperatures forced postponements across the state of Michigan. Greenhills will now host Liggett on Thursday, February 13 as part of a Boys and Girls Varsity doubleheader leading into Mid-Winter Break. In the meantime, girls varsity basketball hits the road this Friday to take on another longtime rival, Cranbrook Kingswood. Cranbook got the best of the Gryphons earlier this season, winning 56-38. Since, Greenhills has won two of their last three games and is primed to even the season series.
Boys Basketball
Boys varsity basketball continues a difficult conference stretch to close this week by hosting cross-town rivals Father Gabriel Richard. While FGR was able to secure a victory earlier this season, the young Gryphons squad, which features only two returnees from last year's varsity team, continues to improve with each game.
