Girls Basketball wins Overtime Thriller

Last Friday, Girls Varsity Basketball headed to Cranbrook in a pivotal CHSL matchup. After falling to the Cranes a week prior, Greenhills needed to secure a win in order to strengthen their standings and bid for a CHSL playoff appearance. Things didn't look great at halftime, with host Cranbrook ahead 17. While Greenhills was able to cut the lead down to 14 to start the fourth quarter, it still appeared a longshot to complete a comeback. While the Gryphons kept battling, they still found themselves down 9 with only 2 minutes to go.

Sophomore Libby Schuster got the comeback going, hitting a 3-pointer to cut the lead to 6 with 1:40 left. Schuster would add another bucket with a minute to go, bringing Greenhills within 2. Freshman Quinn Maldonado would go on to hit two free throws to tie that game at 49 with 10 seconds to go, forcing OT.

The Gryphons would have to come from behind again, in overtime. Cranbrook grabbed a 4-point lead with 3 minutes to go before Greenhills' full court pressure finally got to the Cranes. Sophomore Cate Alumkal led the effort in overtime, with multiple steals and two crucial late baskets, leading Greenhills to a 56-55 victory.

Spirit Week is ON!

Spirit Week has been in full swing in both the Middle and Upper School this week. While there is a competitve tone in the building for now, we look forward to everyone coming together to support our basketball teams which are beginning to look ahead to the home stretch of the season. Friday night promises to be a fun, energy filled evening and we can't wait to see students, parents, friends, and alumni in the Borders Center for Athletics for one of our most enjoyable traditions.

Game line up is:

4pm: Girls JV Basketball vs. Ann Arbor Pioneer (West Gym)

5:30pm: Boys JV Basketball vs. Divine Child (East Gym)

5:30pm: Girls Varsity Basketball vs. Hamtramck (West Gym)

7pm: Boys Varsity Basketball vs. Divine Child (East Gym)

Student Council will be running halftime competitions, concessions will be open, and there will be a Little Caesar's Food Truck on hand, as well.
