A Week Ahead of the MHSAA State Championship Meet, Two Greenhills Swimmers Earn CHSL Gold

Last weekend's CHSL Championships were full of drama as teams were not only competing for a conference championship, but also preparing for this weekends MHSAA Division 2 State Championships.

How dramatic? How about a Gryphon championship performance by a mere 0.03 seconds? Sophomore Jeremiah Green, in the 100-Fly, swam to a personal best 52.87, only 3-hundredths of a second faster the University of Detroit-Jesuit senior Patrick MacKillop.

In the 500-Free, it was another Gryphon taking home first place. Junior Christopher Gregg swam a season-best of 4:41.57, outpacing the second-place finisher by almost three seconds.

Green and Gregg also joined forced on the 400-Free Relay, placing third in CHSL and qualifying for the state meet this weekend. They are not the only ones preparing for this week's state championships, however. Sophomore Ethan Hong will compete in two events, the 200-Individual Medley and the 100-Breast. The trio have each individually qualified for the 200-IM, meaning the field will be full of Gryphons this weekend at Oakland University. In total, Greenhills will be represented eight times at this years MHSAA Championships.

These results highlight a season full of personal and school records for the Gryphons. Both Green and Gregg are in their first season swimming for Greenhills and Hong only his second. However, as the saying goes: “Records were made to be broken.” When the season concludes this weekend, there will be a slate of new school records to aspire to, and all three will be back and ready, with their fellow teammates, to not only cement their place in record books, but also as seasoned leaders.
