Track and Field: CHSL Champions!
On Tuesday, Greenhills hosted the CHSL St. Anne division Conference Championship meet. The meet, hosted annually by Greenhills, welcomes student-athletes from over 10 schools. This year, long-time rivals Greenhills and Liggett were vying for the top spot on both the boys and girls varsity competitions.
On the boys side, Liggett showed their strength with their sprinters, sweeping the top-3 spots in the 100 meter run. Greenhills senior Brock Merrit placed fifth in the race with a personal record of 11.89. However, as the races lengthened, Greenhills showed off its depth. Freshman Rowan Bryer placed second (23.57) in the 200 meter sprint, followed by Merritt in third (23.73). In the 400 meter race, sophomore Sebastian Dickinson placed second with a personal record (52.1) and senior Ishan Leahy also earned a personal record and third place (52.87). Bryer (52) and junior Henry Beck (52.79) rounded out a dominant event for the Gryphons. In the 800, it was all Gryphons: Beck (2:10.91), sophomore Naveen Kulkarni (2:11.07), junior Jonah Kaplan (2:11.89), and junior Royal Seale (2:12.03) took the top four spots. Kulkarni (4:54.7), Beck (4:56.20), and Seale (4:57.98) swept the top spots for Greenhills in the 1600 meter run and Kulkarni (10:40.4), junior Nico Aagesan (10:45.53), senior Mason Stranahan (10:56.23), junior Parth Ashok (10:58.04) and Seale (11:11.12) took five of the top six spots in the 3200. Bryer, Dickinson, Beck, and Leahy combined for a first place finish in the 4x400 relay and Aagesen, sophomore Rashid Monsur, junior Benjamin Zheng, and junior Lucas Alderink took first in the 4x800 relay. Greenhills topped Liggett by an overwhelming score of 199-105.5, earning the second conference title in school history.
The girls team was defending their 2023 and 2024 conference championships. While the boys relied on their strong performance in the distance events, the girls team showed off their depth and versatility, finishing in the top three in a wide range of events. Ninth grader Louisa Cowen placed second in the 200 meter race (26.9, a personal record) and first in the 400 meter race (59.96). Sophomore Nata Yonkosi placed third in the 800 with a time of 2:42.12. Senior Sabine Zebib took first place in the 100m hurdles, racing to a personal record of 18.46, and second place in the 300m hurdles with a time of 53.65, also a personal record. Greenhills sprinters Cowen, ninth grader Avery Phillips, sophomore Emi Song, and senior Eleana Zhuang took first place in the 4x200 relay, with a time of 1:52.81. The relay team of Yonkosi, Phillips, Cowen, and Zhuang to first in the 4x400 relay, with a time of 4:24.76. Greenhills dominated the field events, led by senior Lauren Sheffield who took first place in the shot put (33’ 6.75”) and discus (95’ 11”). Senior Jayla Johnson placed second in the high jump (4’ 10”) and junior Nina Olson placed third in the long jump (14’ 2.5”). Greenhills beat Liggett by a score of 163-142 to earn their third straight conference championship.

Soccer Wins Opening Round Playoff Game
Greenhills varsity soccer hosted Stockbridge, on Wednesday, in the first round of the MHSAA state tournament. It was a one-sided affair with Greenhills jumping out to a fast start and never looking back. Sophomore Maia McSparron put Greenhills on the board first, only minutes into the game. McSparron would add two more first half goals, leading Greenhills to an 8-0 victory. The Gryphons move on to the semifinals and will play Grass Lake on Tuesday, May 27 at Milan high school.

Baseball Tops Detroit Country Day in Preparation for CHSL Championship
While the Greenhills baseball team is heading to The Corner Ballpark in Detroit, today, to compete for their second straight CHSL championship, last night they headed to Detroit Country Day for a late season non-conference matchup. Junior Ethan Berry made the start for Greenhills, pitching four innings and giving up only one run. The Greenhills offense was on full display, breaking the game open with a 5-run third inning. Greenhills would add a pair of runs in each of the next three innings to defeat Country Day 12-3. Freshman Josh Dorfman led the Greenhills offense with three hits and two RBI.
