Athletics Preps for a Homecoming Week Capped with Friday Night Spikes

Remarkably, we have surpassed the halfway point of the 2025 Fall varsity season. Teams are jostling for conference seeding in advance of the CHSL championships and will soon be prepping for deep MHSAA state playoff runs. Varsity field hockey is leading the way with an impressive 8-1 start to the season. It hasn’t always been easy… on Tuesday, the Gryphons and St. Catherine’s Academy were deadlocked at 1-1 for most of the game. However, with only two minutes remaining, Greenhills was able to break the tie and secure victory. The win was the eighth on the season for Greenhills and secured their first place standing in the CHSL.

Meanwhile, varsity volleyball has returned from a long road trip and enjoyed being back in the comfort of West Gym. Since losing a tough 5-set match on the road at Austin Catholic, Greenhills has won 9-straight sets, good for a 3-match winning streak. It started at home against Detroit Cristo Rey, winning 25-4, 25-11, 25-10. Greenhills then hit the road to take on Frankel Academy and put together another 3-0 win, 25-19, 25-16, 25-8. On Tuesday, it was Academy of the Sacred Heart that failed to win a set against the Gryphons. The three-game win streak moves Greenhills to 4-1 in the CHSL standings.

Field Hockey and Volleyball will be on display next Friday for a first ever FRIDAY NIGHT SPIKES event. Students are encouraged to come out and support the teams as they wrap up our week of homecoming athletic contests. Dress in your best country music garb - there will be giveaways throughout the day and free pizza during the varsity volleyball game. 

Varsity Golf and Soccer Highlight Thursday of Homecoming Week, Swimming and Cross Country Hit the Road

This upcoming Thursday, Varsity golf will have their senior day ceremony and compete with rival Plymouth Christian Academy. The match starts at 4pm at Washtenaw Golf Club. 

Varsity Soccer continues CHSL play, hosting Dearborn Divine Child.

On the road, Varsity Swimming heads to Warren Woods Tower and Cross Country heads to the east side of the state to compete at the Patriot Invite. 

Varsity Tennis Kicks Off Homecoming Week on Tuesday

The tennis team hosts Detroit Country Day on Tuesday in one of the premier matchups in the entire state of Michigan. Greenhills and Country Day both earned a share of the 2024 MHSAA State Championship last season. Bragging rights, and state tournament seeding, will be on the line in this rematch of titans. Play starts at 4:30pm.
